A telehandler should not be assumed to retain the same working capacity after standard forks are replaced with a bucket, clamp, hook or platform. Attachment mass, geometry, load position and hydraulic requirements can change the approved operating condition. Match the exact attachment and load to the applicable capacity information before use.
Why Attachments Change Telehandler Capacity
A telehandler is designed to work with different front tools, but the rated capacity is tied to a defined machine and load configuration.
A heavier or deeper attachment can increase the load carried at the boom head or move the load center farther forward. Powered attachments may also require auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure.
Rated Capacity Is Not Available at Every Boom Position
Attachment selection becomes more important as lift height and forward reach increase. A telehandler's headline capacity cannot be applied automatically throughout the full working envelope.
Xinghao's TH4014 is rated at 4,000 kg, while published data lists 3,000 kg at maximum height and 1,650 kg at maximum reach. TH4018 is also rated at 4,000 kg but lists 2,500 kg at maximum height and 700 kg at maximum reach.
Pallet Forks: Check Load Center and Pallet Depth
Forks are the standard reference for many telehandlers, but pallet depth and load distribution still matter.
TH4014 source data lists standard forks at 1200 × 150 × 50 mm. Longer forks or deeper loads can move the center of gravity farther forward than the standard configuration.
Buckets: Match Volume to Material Density
Bucket capacity should not be selected from volume alone. The actual load depends on the material carried.
Soil, gravel, grain and feed can produce very different payloads in the same bucket. Provide the material type, expected density and bucket volume when matching the attachment to the telehandler.
TH4014 data also lists a 7,500 daN bucket breakout-force reference. The final bucket specification should still be matched to the machine and hydraulic configuration.
Clamps and Grabs: Check Load Geometry
Clamp frames and gripping mechanisms can move the load farther forward than standard forks. This changes the effective load center even when the payload remains below the nominal machine capacity.
For bricks, timber, bales or other irregular loads, provide the load dimensions, weight, gripping surface and required opening range.
Hooks and Jibs: Check the Suspended Load Point
Hooks and jibs move the lifting point away from the carriage. A longer jib increases the horizontal distance between the telehandler and the suspended load.
Confirm the hook or jib model, attachment weight, suspended load mass, lifting-point distance, required height and forward reach before selecting the configuration.
Work Platforms Need a Separate Configuration Check
A personnel platform should not be treated as an ordinary material-handling attachment.
Confirm that the selected telehandler, platform, control arrangement and local requirements permit the intended personnel-lifting task. Pallet lifting capability alone does not confirm suitability for a work platform.
Hydraulic Attachments Must Match the Telehandler
Powered buckets, clamps and grabs may need auxiliary hydraulics. Mechanical hitch compatibility alone does not confirm that the attachment is suitable.
Compare Common Telehandler Attachments
| Attachment | Main Capacity Factor | Hydraulic Check | Key Input |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pallet Forks | Pallet depth and load center | Usually limited | Load size, weight, height and reach |
| Bucket | Tool mass, volume and material density | Confirm auxiliary functions | Material type and density |
| Clamp / Grab | Attachment depth and load geometry | Flow, pressure and gripping functions | Load dimensions and gripping method |
| Hook / Jib | Suspended load point | Depends on configuration | Load mass and hook position |
| Work Platform | Complete approved configuration | Confirm interface requirements | Machine, platform and task |
Check Capacity Again after Changing the Attachment
If the attachment changes the front-end mass, geometry or load position, do not assume that the standard fork capacity remains unchanged.
Record the attachment, payload, required lift height and horizontal reach, then verify that working point against the applicable load chart or approved capacity information.
Specify the Attachment before Ordering the Telehandler
If the attachment is central to the job, include it in the equipment enquiry from the beginning. This allows machine capacity, hydraulic interface and working position to be reviewed together.

Telehandler Attachment FAQ
Q: Does changing a telehandler attachment affect lifting capacity?
A: It can. Attachment mass, geometry and load position can change the load moment. Check the applicable capacity information for the complete configuration.
Q: Can I use the standard fork load chart with a bucket?
A: Do not assume so. A bucket has different mass and geometry, and the load depends on material density and bucket volume.
Q: Can a telehandler use hooks or jibs?
A: Xinghao telehandler documentation lists hooks among available attachment types. The exact attachment and suspended load point must be checked against the machine capacity.
Q: Can any telehandler use a personnel platform?
A: Do not assume this. Confirm that the telehandler, platform, control arrangement and local requirements permit the intended personnel-lifting task.
Q: Do hydraulic attachments need special connections?
A: Powered attachments may require compatible auxiliary hydraulic flow, pressure, couplers and control functions.
Q: What information should I send for an attachment capacity check?
A: Send attachment type, mass and dimensions, maximum payload, load dimensions, required lift height, forward reach, hydraulic requirements and telehandler model.
Match the Attachment to the Working Load
Send the attachment type, attachment mass and dimensions, maximum load, required lift height, forward reach, hydraulic requirements, telehandler model, site conditions, destination and quantity. Xinghao can review the machine and attachment configuration together.
