How a 16 Ton Forklift Fits in a 40HQ Container
A 16 ton diesel forklift is too large to enter a standard shipping container in its fully assembled form. The XINGHAO FD160 uses a removable mast and a dismantled transport arrangement to fit inside a 40-foot high-cube container.
The main chassis and detached lifting components are loaded separately and secured for sea transport. The forklift is reassembled after arriving at its destination.
The FD160 Inside a Shipping Container

The FD160 loading photograph shows the forklift body positioned inside a container, with detached lifting components arranged alongside it.
The heavy steel assemblies are packed separately from the chassis. Chains are visible securing the equipment.
This arrangement reduces the overall height of the main vehicle body and allows large components to be loaded within the enclosed space.
Removing the Mast Before Container Loading
The mast is one of the largest structural assemblies on a heavy forklift. Removing it reduces the machine's transport height.
Front Chassis Without the Mast
The front view of the FD160 shows the drive axle, large pneumatic tyres, hydraulic connections and mast mounting area.
The detached lifting assembly is handled as separate cargo during container loading. Hydraulic and structural connections must be restored during reassembly.
The mast and related lifting components must be installed, connected and inspected before the forklift returns to service.

How the Forklift's Size Affects Shipping

The FD160 has a published overall width of 2,480 mm, a 3,800 mm wheelbase and a 7,500 mm overall length with forks installed.
These are the forklift's assembled operating dimensions. Its dismantled transport dimensions are different and depend on the removed assemblies.
The transport configuration must fit the container door, internal space and permitted loading arrangement.

From Forklift Preparation to Container Loading
Check the forklift, shipping arrangement and required lifting equipment.
Remove the designated mast and lifting components.
Position the forklift body and detached assemblies inside the container.
Use suitable supports and restraints to prevent cargo movement during transport.
What Must Be Checked Before Shipping?
A successful 40HQ loading plan depends on more than the forklift's external dimensions. The container must also support the cargo weight and loading method.
The container's permitted payload, floor strength and load distribution must suit the packed equipment.
The dismantled body and separate parts must pass through the container door and fit within its internal dimensions.
Blocking, support and lashing arrangements must keep the machine and loose components stable during transport.
The FD160 has a published service weight of 22,000 kg. The final shipping weight also includes packing and securing materials. The container's actual payload limit and cargo distribution must be checked before loading.
40HQ Container Shipping vs Flat Rack Shipping
Some heavy forklifts are shipped on flat racks because their assembled dimensions exceed enclosed container limits. The FD160 uses partial disassembly to provide a 40HQ transport option.
| Shipping Method | Main Difference |
|---|---|
| 40HQ Container | Enclosed shipping with defined door, payload and internal space limits. The FD160 is loaded in dismantled form. |
| Flat Rack | Open cargo platform used for certain oversized machinery. Carrier and route restrictions apply. |
| Loading | Both require suitable lifting equipment, weight distribution and cargo securing. |
| Transport Cost | Depends on freight rates, destination, cargo handling and packing requirements. |
A 40HQ arrangement may offer a freight cost advantage on some routes. The actual difference is determined by the shipping quotation and associated handling costs.
Reassembly After Delivery
After the container arrives, the forklift body and removed components are unloaded using suitable equipment.
The mast and related assemblies are reinstalled. Mechanical connections, hydraulics, lifting controls and safety functions must be inspected before operation.
Remove the main machine body and packed assemblies from the container.
Reinstall removed components following the applicable machine procedures.
Check lifting, hydraulic and safety functions before use.
