How to operate a reach stacker

Feb 12, 2025

A reach stacker is a lifting device used to load and unload containers. Its operation involves multiple steps and precautions to ensure the safety and efficiency of the operation. The following are the main operating methods of the reach stacker:

1. ‌Preparation before operation‌
‌Equipment inspection‌: Before operation, check whether the hydraulic oil, engine oil, transmission oil, fuel, cooling water, tire pressure, etc. are sufficient, and confirm whether the spreader, turn lock and its indicator light are intact. ‌
‌Start-up preheating‌: After starting, the engine and hydraulic system should be preheated for about 3 minutes at idle speed, and the seat belt should be fastened before operation. ‌
2. ‌Vehicle operation‌
‌Start and drive‌: Set the speed selector lever to gear Ⅰ, the direction change joystick to "F" (forward), shift gears step by step, and accelerate smoothly. The travel speed of the reach stacker with load shall not exceed 10 km/h, and the travel speed when unloaded shall not exceed 15 km/h. ‌
1
‌Turning and passing obstacles‌: Slow down when turning, slow down and hoist when passing narrow roads with many people, uneven roads, and poor visibility. The speed should not exceed 5km/h.
3. ‌Lifting operation‌
‌Confirm the weight and center of gravity‌: Before lifting, confirm the weight and center of gravity of the hoisted object and select suitable booms and ropes. ‌
2
‌Lifting equipment connection‌: Insert the hoisting equipment into the slots at both ends of the boom and fix it, and confirm whether the status of the boom and rope is normal.
‌Lifting and moving‌: Slowly lift the boom to the required height and safely move the hoisted objects to the designated location.
4. ‌Safety precautions‌
‌Protective equipment‌: Operators should wear protective equipment such as safety helmets, gloves, and safety shoes.
‌Load capacity‌: Strictly comply with the load capacity regulations of the boom and sling, and do not use overload.
‌Stable operation‌: The hoisting equipment should be kept stable during the lifting process to prevent tilting or deviation.
5. ‌End of operation‌
‌Unload the spreader‌: Lower the boom as needed and unload the spreader in time.
‌Equipment inspection‌: After the operation is completed, check the equipment status to ensure there are no abnormalities.
